Strategic Summary:

Welcome to another CDP, this time brought to you by a request for me to try and combine the Aroma and Vaalmonica archetypes together. The concept behind this hybrid is simple – Aroma monsters love gaining LP, as when you gain LP, their effects trigger and do something beneficial. For example, Aromage Jasmine draws a card or Aromalilith Magnolia makes all of your Plant monsters gain ATK equal to the LP gained. They’re supported by a trio of Continuous Trap Winds cards, Humid Winds, Dried Winds, and Blessed Winds, each that manipulate your LP and give you additional advantages. It also helps that any of the three can be placed on your board by Aroma Blend, as consistency is king.

Now the Vaalmonica archetype, on the other hand, consists of monsters that benefit from both gaining LP and taking effect damage, and their S/T support cards offer you a choice of effects. For example, Vaalmonica Scelta lets you gain 500 LP, return 1 card from hand to deck, then draw 2 cards, or you can take 500 damage, and tutor a Vaalmonica S/T. Their primary monsters, Angello Vaalmonica and Dimonno Vaalmonica, also can banish a Vaalmonica S/T from the GY to apply one of their effects, letting you quickly rack up Resonance Counters on your Pendulum Scales. Once you reach 3 Counters, you unlock the Vaalmonica boss monsters – LINK-1s that can turn the tide of the duel in your favor.

This combined strategy really shines in a few ways, but above all else, you finally can shelve Aroma Garden and Aroma Gardening, two Spell cards meant to trigger your Aromage effects by gaining LP. The problem with these two is that they are useless in isolation – if you don’t have an Aroma combo ready, they are dead weight. That’s what makes the Vaalmonica such an alluring inclusion: they aren’t just used to trigger your Aroma monsters; they also give you other beneficial effects. It also helps that the newest Vaalmonica cards will release later this month to the TCG. This new wave includes Selettrice Vaalmonica, which tutors a Vaalmonica card on Normal or Pendulum Summon, Vaalmonica Invitare, which tutors Vaalmonica monsters, and Vaalmonica Disarmonia, which recovers Vaalmonica cards, all add amazing flexibility and consistency, making a hybrid build more achievable. Enjoy a combination of music and perfume, with the Vaalmonica and Aromages!
