Let’s Look Back at that Time with Mr. Hikokubo Masahiro who was in Charge of Duel Composition!!

-Duel Memorial Album- (#1)

From this time on, we’ll discuss some points to be on the look out for in the contents of the Duels, matching the currently airing episode!

My name is Hikokubo, and I was in charge of Duel Composition for “GX”. I never thought I would talk about past Duels 20 years later, but I hope that those who are now feeling nostalgic about that time, as well as those who are now looking forward to what kind of Duels will come next can find something to enjoy about.

Turn 20:
Originally it was decided that Saotome Rei would use “The Unhappy Girl” as the center piece of her deck and the Duel was created around that, but in the final version it was decided that to represent “a young girl who is in love with being in love” like Rei, a new monster called “Maiden in Love” was created. In addition, I thought about how “since monster spirits can be seen in this series, maybe we can even create a Duel like this?” and added a small skit between monsters, leading to the final conclusion of the Duel. Looking back on it even now, we definitely challenged ourselves a lot in this episode. I liked how we used “Burst Lady” as well (lol).

Turn 21 – Turn 22:
We had a lot of fun every time we got to make an episode where Mizawa duels, in which logic and cards are linked together to create the Duel. Litmus no Shi no Kenshi [Litmus Doom Swordsman] was originally called “Litmus Shikenshi”, but when I heard the name being pronounced, it was hard to recognize as the name of a monster, thus the current name. At the time I was thinking “but it’s fine anyway!”, but thinking about it now, I realized that they were right about it.

Note from Ness:

For the Litmus name, originally it was something like “The Litmus Deathknight”, and the final name is “The Knight of Death of Litmus” or “The Litmus Knight of Death”.

Turn 23:
If I recall correctly, it was thanks to the pushing of one scriptwriter, who liked the illustration, that we decided to use “Mokey Mokey”. He would make a great pair with Mokeo [i.e. Belowsky]…or maybe a quartet.

(Ark Note: It is not stated if the scriptwriter is Suzuki Yasuyuki or not)

Turn 24:
The debut appearance of “Ojama Yellow”! I would have never thought that it would become one of the monsters that would represent “GX”.
