Tyler Gressle’s “Tyler the Great Warrior” was sold via eBay auction on April 29th, 2023.
This one-of-a-kind card was created for Mr. Gressle when he was a child as a part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation when he was afflicted with a rare form of cancer in childhood. The organization helped Mr. Gressle with fulfilling a wish of his own Yu-Gi-Oh! card, inspired heavily by Future Trunks from the Dragon Ball series. 4Kids Entertainment, now Konami Cross Media, was an intermediary in making the wish happened.
The design of the card itself was done in a two step process of Tyler drawing it, and then Mr. Takahashi Kazuki drew two sets of concept artworks for the card based on Mr. Gressle’s artwork:
Mr. Gressle explained he’s selling the card, that he received as a child, to help allocate the money to help him start a family, start a local business in his community, and provide a nest egg to let his family travel the world.
Mr. Gressle admitted back in 2015 he was considering selling the card due to financial hardships, but the offer at the time was $75,000. This means the card will have sold for a little over 4 times its previous offered value.
Mr. Gressle is keeping and framing the original three sketches, leaving him with a portion of his childhood gift.
